Not a whole lot of information to be released today, but the market has plenty to digest with the flurry of reports this week, some good, some not so good.

ES Emini Trading Chart for 9-2-09

A nice day of trading though there were some very choppy periods. No big gainers until the end of the day…most of it was 10 point stuff, especially later as the range narrowed. Had a couple of losers on trades that didn’t really develop.

YM emini Chart for 9-1-09

By , 1 September, 2009, No Comment

I traded the YM contract today, for no particular reason other than I felt like trading something different. Only two trades and the market flattened out. The second trade was a good fade trade though I, as usual, bailed out at 40 points, and left some money on the chart.

ES Emini Trading: Trade the Closing Price

Today’s chart, which should be directly below this post, illustrates something that I have a strong belief. I don’t know that my view is controversial, but as I watch people trade, not many are able to adhere to this simple principle: You are only interested in opening and closing prices in the time period you are trading.

ES Emini Chart for 8-31-09

I stayed out of the early action as the market fell out of bed on poor performances in the Asian market and elsewhere, with the exception of Japan. ES Chart for August 21, 2009

ES Chart for August 21, 2009

After a dramatic opening, which resulted in a great trade, the market flattened out and stayed that way until a small move at the close. I missed the early part of the large move and limited out at 12 ticks, so I can’t say I really did a good job on the first trade. I had stopped trading toward the end of the day so I did not participate in the final legitimate trade of the day. I would not say I did a great job.

Can the Market Be Wrong?

This begs the question for the trader: Is the Market Wrong at Times?
Well, the answer is an easy one. The market is always right, and if you trade why you think is right versus what the market has deemed to be right you are in for an unprofitable ride.
