Todays Pivot and Fed News

By , 16 September, 2009, No Comment

Looks like a full slate of interesting announcements in the next two days. I am particularly interested in the employment data tomorrow. Industrial Production and PPI on tap today as we see how well we are steering through the later stages of this recession.

Ben Bernanke Speaks
10:00 AM ET

Should be a day loaded with all sorts of potential surprises, culminating with Bernanke speaking at 10 a.m.   I would be mindful, early on, of the potential volatility in the market as it digests a wide range of economic data.  Of course, the question on everyone’s mind is a simple one, where are we in this recession?
In the early going, the consumer spending numbers have been pretty positive.

Should be an interesting day, a few semi-important announcements that have the potential to effect the market.  Of course, you never know what announcement may send the market spinning away.  It didn’t used to be that way….oh, well…

There is not an overabundance of announcements today, but some interesting stuff.  Yesterday’s announcement of the alarming contraction of consumer credit should play into the market today.

ES Emini: Tuesday Sept. 8

Nothing of overriding consequence is scheduled to be announced today, but that doesn’t mean the potential of interesting trading is excluded, as the market wrestles with just where we are in this recession. Several economists announced last week that the recession was over when we had some good numbers on manufacturing. I am a bit skeptical of these predictions, and would prefer to see some successive numbers of increased manufacturing capacity before I would call the recession quits.

I was stunned to see that GM and Chrysler still were unable to increase their sales, even though the cash for clunkers and rebates made for some incredible prices for potential consumers. Toyota won the cash for clunkers derby going away. No surprise there.
